Marching Knights Place Third At State Champs!

Norwell Marching Knights capped off another successful season with a third place in Saturday’s State Marching Band Championships at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis.

The result continues something of a tradition for the Marching Knights, who have now consistently placed in the top three on all but one occasion dating back to 2001.

“We are all very, very happy.” enthused Band Director Doug Hassell. “This was the kind of season where everything just clicked. Each week, we just got better, and (this weekend) the kids gave their best performance of the year. We just had a great group of people, and everyone went above and beyond what was asked of them.”

Western, from Russiaville won the Class C competition, while Edgewood, from Ellettsville, claimd second. Rounding out the top 10, behind Norwell, were Scottsburg, Beech Grove, Heritage (Monroeville), Fairfield (Goshen), Concordia Lutheran, Gibson Southern (Fort Branch) and Lincoln (Vincennes).

Norwell’s effort in Class C was also the best result of all schools in this area. Competing in Class A, Homestead placed fourth and Snider eighth. In Class B, Dekalb placed seventh. Also in Class C alongside Norwell, Heritage placed sixth and Concordia Lutheran eighth. And in Class D, Woodlan placed seventh and Adams Central ninth.

Hassell acknowledged the contribution made by the senior members of his squad this year. He is confident, however, that the successful run can continue, with plenty of young, emerging talent coming through the ranks.

Many thanks once again to Tomi Harrison for the photo. More of Tomi's pics will be posted over the course of the coming week. And, of course, congratulations to everyone involved in another fantastic effort for the Marching Knights!
