Musical Entourage Brings Broadway To Bluffton

Bluffton show choir fans were treated to a touch of Broadway Friday and Saturday evenings.

The Bluffton High School’s Musical Entourage  performed numbers from several Broadway musicals, as well as their 2010 show choir competition routine, at their Broadway Spectacular fundraiser and dinner. The 24 choir members and six supporting band members included songs from no less than 11 different Broadway musicals, including Phantom of the Opera, Aida, Les Miserables and Wicked.

The evening began with a gourmet-style dinner, organized by Rhonda Gerber,  with tables served by the students.

The show started an hour  later with the full cast performing “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from Funny Girl, with Emily Harnish in the lead solo role. Over the course of the Broadway segment of the show, the full choir returned for “Song of Purple Summer” from Spring Awakening, with Mykayla Rodenbeck and Carson Addington in the feature roles, and “Johnny One Note” from Babes In Arms.

Aaron Carr, Daniel Johnson and Donald Mock combined for “That’s Your Funeral” from Oliver Twist, while Harnish, Rodenbeck, Katie Thacker, Mallory Bowman, Peyton Fugate, Jenna Feeback, Hope Gerber. Kristan Brinneman and Naomi Ifer all performed solo routines.

After a brief intermission, the full Musical Entourage cast then returned to the stage to perform its competition routine. Once again, Feebeck, Brinneman, Harnish, Thacker, Carr and Rodenbeck performed solo roles within the show, and Taylor White, added a guitar accompaniment as Harnish performed her "Mama Who Bore Me" vocal solo.

Bluffton’s show choir program will present its final show of the year at the high school on Wednesday, May 19, with seniors Harnish, Johnson and Thacker making their final appearances with Musical Entourage.

See Below For Video From Norwell Show Choirs Visit to Lancaster Elementary Thursday

Students at Ossian and Lancaster elementary schools received a special treat Thursday.

Members of Norwell’s Knight Moves, Knight Stars and Knight Sounds show choirs brought abbreviated versions of their respective competition routines to both schools, to give the younger students a glimpse of what they can look forward to at middle and high school.

The visit to Ossian Elementary took place Thursday morning from 9 a.m., while the show choirs performed at Lancaster Elementary at 1 p.m.

Most of the show choir members performing were alumni of either of the two elementaries, and many had younger siblings or nephews and nieces in the audiences.

The three show choirs will be performing at Norwell’s annual Spring Show on April 30 and May 1, with a special recognition of the seniors on the Saturday night.

(Video from the show at Lancaster is two posts down).

Norwell Music Department to host Spring Fundraiser Saturday

The Norwell High School auditorium will be alive Saturday with the sound of music.

It’s time once again for Norwell’s annual spring fundraising show. In past years, the event has been known as Norwell’s annual “Pork Chop Dinner Fundraiser”. This year, the pork chops are off the menu and chicken is on.

“Back 40” restaurant will be catering this event and the dinner now consists of a chicken leg quarter meal, which includes chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, roll, drink, and dessert.  There is a children’s meal also, consisting of hot dog, chips, applesauce or green beans, drink, and dessert.

Dinner will be served from 4 to 8 p.m., with the entertainment scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Students from Ossian and Lancaster elementary schools, and the Norwell middle and high school, will all take part in the event. Performances will include all the show choirs, the symphonic and pep bands, the drum line, and various other individual efforts.

This year, all of the performances will be held in the auditorium, including the drum line, which has in the past performed the evening’s finale in the gymnasium.

The performance schedule is as follows:

4:30 p.m. - Ossian Elementary.

4:45 p.m. - Lancaster Elementary.

5 p.m. - Knight Sounds (middle school show choir.)

5:30 p.m. - Knight Stars (women’s show choir.)

6 p.m. - Knight Moves (Mixed show choir)

8:15 p.m. - Norwell High School Winter Drum Line.

The chicken dinner is $8, the hot dog meal is $4, and general admission to the fundraiser without purchasing a meal is $2. Proceeds will provide funds for the music program at Northern Wells Community Schools.
