Norwell Show Choir Competition Schedule Confirmed

The 2010 competition schedule for Norwell's show choirs has been confirmed. The Knight Moves and Knight Stars will travel to five competitions and also, on Feb. 13, host their own Norwell Invitational. 


The schedule is as follows:


Feb. 6: at Anderson Highland 

Feb. 13: Norwell Invitational at Norwell High School

Feb. 20: at Center Grove 

Feb. 27: at Tippecanoe

March 6: at Shelbyville

March 13: at Hanover 


The show choirs will host the annual Pork Chop Dinner/Performance at Norwell on April 10, and the "Spring Show" at a date in may that has yet to be confirmed.

Brew Ha! Packed For Norwell Drum Line Fundraiser Sunday



Members of the Norwell Drum Line waited tables at a packed Brew Ha! in Ossian Sunday afternoon in an effort to raise funds for their upcoming season. 

The Brew Ha! hosted three one-hour food sampling sessions starting at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. with a wide variety of goodies available for tasting.

Top Soloists at 2010 "Raider Classic"




This was the first year a solo division has been contested at the Southern Wells "Raider Classic".

Southern Wells' "New Horizons" show choir performed an exhibition of its 2010 competition routine at the conclusion of Saturday's 2010 "Raider Classic". Chelsea Smith was named "Outstanding Performer" for Southern Wells.  

Garrett High School Take Grand Champion Title at 2010 "Raider Classic"




The girls from Garrett High School's "Rhythm Connection" proved too hot for the competition at Saturday's 7th Annual "Raider Classic" at Southern Wells.

"Rhythm Connection" (pictured above) won the Ladies Division, and also the Grand Champion title. The full story is in the News-Banner today (Monday) and additional photos and also video will be posted over the next few days.

Southern Wells Hosts Raider Classic Saturday


Southern Wells will host the annual Raider Classic Show Choir Invitational Saturday.


Last year, Bluffton’s Musical Entourage (pictured above, competing at Norwell last year) took top honors, giving their brand new director Elyse Breeding a golden start to her career. Musical Entourage will be back again this year, competing in the Mixed Choir division at 1 p.m. 


As host choir, Southern Wells is not eligible to compete, however New Horizons will perform their routine as an exhibition at 2:20 p.m. 


There will be competition in Ladies Choir, Mixed Choir and Solo competition.  


Awards are given for each division along with outstanding vocalist, instrumental, Tech Crew, and Choreography and overall Grand Champion.


Doors open for the event at 8 a.m., with the Ladies Division competition starting at 9:30 a.m. 


A morning concessions with donuts and juice will be available from 8 a.m. until sold out, while lunch, which will include the Southern Wells Music Boosters famous Taco Salads, will also be served. 


Tickets to the event cost $5. The full schedule for the event is as follows:


Ladies Division:

9:30 a.m.:  Bellmont High School L.E.G.S.

10 a.m.: Garrett High School Rhythm Connection

10:30 a.m.: East Noble High School Premiere Edition 


Mixed Division:

Noon: Bellmont High School Brave Generation.

12:30 p.m.: Crestview High School Knight Vision.

1 p.m.: Bluffton High School Musical Entourage.

1:30 p.m.: East Noble High School Knight Rhythms.


Solo Division:

2 p.m.: The top three soloists from this competition will present a public performance. 

 

Exhibition Performance:

2:20 p.m.: Southern Wells High School New Horizons. 


The presentation of the awards will directly follow New Horizon’s performance. 

Coming Events at the Brew-Ha!

January's "Artist of the Month" is Greg Mendez, brother of Alex Mendez, who has entertained at the Brew Ha! with his music both individually and as part of the band "My Lost Tribe" on several occasions. Greg's art will be on display all month, and he will have an "Open House" at the Brew Ha! on Friday, Jan. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. 

Other artists interested in displaying their work at the Brew Ha! are invited to contact Monica. 

The Norwell Drum Line will hold a fund raiser on Sunday, Jan. 17, with lots of yummy treats available. The fundraiser will be held in three "tasting hours", each of an hour, starting at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Each hour will include plenty of great food and deserts, and participants will be able to try any of the coffee, tea, smoothies, or any other drinks on the menu. Tickets cost $12 and are available from any drum line member, or from Deb Grover on (260) 820-1042.

Don't forget that the Brew Ha! hosts euchre every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Also, MILL bread is available every Thursday and Friday at the Brew Ha!, and Swissland cheese daily. Special orders for both can be placed.
