Norwell Show Choirs Host End of Year Shows this Weekend


Norwell’s show choirs wrap up another year of competition success with a special farewell to five seniors this weekend.

The Norwell High School and Middle School Choirs will present “Reflections” at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5, in the high school auditorium.

The doors will open at 7 p.m.

At the conclusion of Saturday’s show, choir seniors and their parents will be recognized and honored in a special ceremony. The five seniors who will be recognized are Alyssa Noble, Hannah Porrata, Kate Runyon, Veronica Runyon, and Leslie Sagstetter.

Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults and may be purchased from any choir member or at the door on the performance evenings.

Northern Wells Community Schools Host 'Music Extravaganza'


Northern Wells Community Schools’ most musically talented strutted their stuff at the high school Saturday evening in the annual “Music Extravaganza.”

Band, drum lines, and show choirs from Norwell middle and high schools, plus Ossian and Lancaster elementary schools all performed in a show that helped raised funds for the school system’s music programs.

In addition to group performances, a number of students also showcased their talents with solo spots. Alivia Tapp, Hannah Pfaff, Katie Spear, Emily Lampton, Chloe Price, Mariah Meier, Leslie Sagstetter (pictured above), Eli Harter, Mary Grace O’Neal, Noah Tobias and Kieran Vieth all featured in this capacity. Vocalist Tara Hughes was accompanied by Caleb Stoller on the guitar, while Kiri Kobelja, Tess McBride and Emily Miller combined for a flute ensemble performance, Christian Bohata and Josh Whitney teamed up for a trumpet/sax duet, and Katie Brandewie and Claire Johnson performed a flute/clarinet duet.

Norwell Hosting Music Extravaganza - with Dinner and a Mattress!

The Northern Wells Community Schools music departments will be combining to host “Dinner and a Mattress” – a musical extravaganza, at Norwell High School Saturday.

In addition to the traditional dinner and musical entertainment, the students will also host a mattress sale throughout the day in the high school gymnasium.

Mattresses of all sizes and types will be available. All items are brand new with factory warranties and no mark-up. Free layaway and delivery are available, with cash, check and credit card payment accepted.

Students from Ossian and Lancaster elementary schools, and the Norwell middle and high school, will all take part in the event. Performances will include all the show choirs, the symphonic and pep bands, the drum line, and various other individual efforts.

Preble Garden will be catering the event and the dinner, served in the cafeteria, consists of several options:
• $10 dinner consisting of two meats (chicken breast and six-ounce pork loin), cheesy potatoes, green beans, a roll, drink and desert and admission to the show.
• $8 dinner consisting of one meat (chicken breast or six-ounce pork loin), cheesy potatoes, green beans, a roll, drink and desert and admission to the show.
• $4 hot dog dinner consisting of hot dog, chips, applesauce or vegetable, drink and desert and admission to the show.

Take out is also available, and there is also the option of $2 admission to the show with no dinner. Northern Wells students get in to the show free!

The performance schedule is as follows:
4:30 p.m. – Ossian Elementary’s “Jefferson Street Singers.”
4:45 p.m. – Lancaster Elementary’s “Boppin’ Bobcats.”
5 p.m. – Norwell Knight Stars (Womens’ show choir.)
5:30 p.m. – Norwell Knight Sounds (Middle School show choir.)
6 p.m. – Norwell Knight Moves (Mixed show choir)
6:45 p.m. – Norwell Middle School 6th grade band.
7 p.m. – Norwell Middle School 7th grade band.
7:15 p.m. – Norwell Middle School 8th grade band.
7:30 p.m. – Norwell Middle School 8th grade jazz band.
7:45 p.m. – Norwell High School jazz band.
8:10 p.m. - Norwell High School Concert band.
:40 p.m. - Norwell High School Pep Band.
9 p.m. - Norwell High School Winter Percussion.

The mattress sale will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with dinner, served in the cafeteria from 4 p.m., and musical entertainment in the auditorium from 4:30 to approximately 9:15 p.m.

All proceeds will provide funds for the music program at Northern Wells Community Schools.

Bluffton Show Choir Students Host 'Texas Tenderloin' Fundraiser


Bluffton Show Choir students will be hosting a “Texas Tenderloin” fundraiser this coming weekend.

From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 21, students and their supporters will be camped in the Dollar General South parking lot, cooking up a tasty treat for passers-by.

A “Texas Tenderloin” meal, consisting of a tenderloin, fries, drink and desert can be purchased for $10. If you’re not quite that hungry, a sandwich will cost $7.

Funds raised from the event will assist with the costs of next year’s show choir program at Bluffton.
